Duvaz added Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu’s address in parliament on the matter, scheduled for Aug 13, during the extraordinary session of the Chamber of Deputies, is not enough. He added social democrats feel the Parliament should meet urgently to   debate and adopt measures needed to hinder devastating effects of recent floods in northern and eastern Romania, setting an agenda for the government to implement.

The lawmaker added the Parlaiemnt needs to adopt clear measures, and people’s homes need to be rebuilt immediately, not by December 1, as prime minister Tariceanu said.

"The government must be mandated by the parliament as to what it has to do," Duvaz said, adding the current government has not initiated any significant environmental projects and hasn’t assigned enough funding to fight deforestation.

The Chamber of Deputies’ standing office decided last week to call an extraordinary session for August 13, to vote on prosecutors’ requests to prosecute former prime minister Adrian Nastase and former transport minister Miron Mitrea. Prime Minister Tariceanu is to deliver an address on the issue of floods during the same meeting.
