Appeal Hearings In Senate Chairman Perjury Case Postponed For January 2019

Judge Aurel Ilie filed with the country's top judicial watchdog CSM for retirement on Monday, with the appeal herings to now be delayed until after the Supreme Court’s five-judge panels will be reselected in January.

According to new regulations, all of the formation’s five judges will be randomly drawn, with no guaranteed seats for magistrates with leading roles in the Supreme Court.

Tariceanu was acquitted of the charge of perjury in in the initial verdict announced in May, but anticorruption prosecutors appealed the decision.

The National Anticorruption Directorate indicted Tariceanu in 2016, accusing of him perjury in official statements made in another case, regarding a suspected illegal retrocession of properties in favor of Prince Paul of Romania.
