Romanian Govt OKs Emergency Ordinance On New Car Pollution Tax

The Romanian government approved Monday the emergency ordinance introducing the pollution tax for cars to replace the current tax perceived upon the first registration of cars.

"The ordinance was adopted and takes effect as of July 1," Adrian Ciocanea, head of the Department for European Affairs, told MEDIAFAX Monday.

The new tax will be calculated for the technical data of each particular car depending on carbon dioxide and other noxious emissions. The government will refund the extra money paid for the old car tax.
