Nineteen people are being investigated over the fraudulent release of driving licenses and registrations of cars in Sfantu Gheorghe, central Romania, following extensive searches Wednesday morning, the General Anticorruption Department (DGA) said.

Of the people investigated, five are agents of the local driving license and car registration service, one is a clerk in the local mayoralty, three are car inspectors and the rest are middlemen.
 
The 19 people are accused of bribery, influence peddling and complicity to bribery.
 
DGA spokesperson Sarmizia Fetcu said people paid EUR100 to EUR10,000 for the release of driving licenses or registration of cars.
