Romanian Leu Strengthens Vs Euro In Early Trade

The Romanian leu opened lower against the euro Thursday, but strengthened constantly in early trade, in line with currencies on the emerging markets, and supported by a possible intervention of the central bank, traders said.

The leu opened at RON3.89 against the euro, down from Wednesday’s closing value, but at around GMT 0800, it touched an early high at RON3.8 to the euro, dealers said.

On the money market Wednesday, overnight rates were at 13.4% – 14.62%.

The leu closed Wednesday at RON3.8750/RON3.8800 against the euro, higher from RON3.9150/RON3.9190 to the euro at Tuesday’s closing.
