Parliament Often Bent Constitution To Fit Political Interests –President

Romanian President Traian Basescu told young graduates of the National Magistrates Institute on Tuesday that lawmakers have often “bent” the Constitution to make it fit political purposes.

Basescu said that during his mandate as president, which he described as difficult, he relied only on the country’s fundamental law.

He advised graduates to do the same and warned them Romania has many laws that do not abide by the Constitution.

"The Parliament has often bent the Constitution to fit political interests and were less interested in abiding by the spirit of the Constitution in passing new laws," Basescu said.
