The 2010 clunkers program was allotted 722,000,000 lei (EUR1=RON4.2368), enough to scrap 190,000 old cars, the ministry also said.

Environment Minister Laszlo Borbely said in June that Romania initially issued 60,000 scrapping vouchers, worth RON228 million, for the 2010 clunkers program, which started on February 18. He added that an additional 100,000 vouchers, worth RON380 million, were issued in March and April, followed by 30,000 more in June, worth RON114 million.

The 2010 clunkers program sets that in exchange for a scrapped car, owners receive a voucher worth RON3,800 but no more than three vouchers can be used to buy a new car.
