Romanian Ambassador To Thailand Dies Of Heart Failure At 65

Romanian Ambassador to Thailand Radu Gabriel Mateescu, 65, has died following a heart attack at the Payathai hospital in Bangkok Thursday evening, Romanian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

The ministry said Mateescu served his country “with loyalty and a high level of professionalism” and extended its regrets to Mateescu’s family and friends.
 
“Over a diplomatic career of 40 years, Ambassador Mateescu carried an ample diplomatic and representative activity with Romanian embassies in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. He was head of mission or ambassador to Romanian diplomatic offices in Islamabad, Ottawa, Pretoria and Bangkok,” the ministry said in a statement.
