Romanian Blue Air Asks EC, Govt For Aid Over EUR2.5M Loss From Airspace Closure

Blue Air was forced to cancel 164 flights, affecting about 20,100 passengers. Because of the closure of airspaces all over Europe, the company lost EUR2.48 million.

"The company has forwarded this data to the European Commission and the Government of Romania, in an effort to obtain support to deal with this situation," Ussama said.

The airline is owned by Romanian businessman Nelu Iordache.

A plume of ash caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland disturbed air traffic in Europe and forced several states to close their airspaces. Air traffic over Romania was closed between Saturday 6 p.m. and Monday 3 p.m.
