Romanian Deputies Debate Uninominal Voting System Law

The far-right Greater Romania Party, or PRM, is the only political group which states it is against the system.

Members of the electoral code committee decided last week the electoral threshold for the uninominal voting system should be 5% and the threshold for political alliances should be "5+3+1+1", that is, a maximum 10%. An alliance of two parties needs 8%, of three parties - 9%, and four or more parties – 10%.

Members of the electoral code committee decided unanimously the uninominal voting system law should include a single round of elections and the redistribution of mandates under proportional representation.
