Cioroianu was foreign affairs minister under the Tariceanu government and was forced to resign following the death of a Romanian citizen in a Polish prison.

According to Cioroianu, the high amount of weapons stolen indicates a vehicle was used in the robbery.

Romanian defense minister Mihai Stanisoara confirmed Thursday evening on Realitatea TV that weapons were missing from the warehouse. He said that no ammunition was stolen, because it wasn’t stored in the same place as the weapons.

"No ammunition was stolen. A number of weapons are missing,” Stanisoara said, declining to state the number, saying it would interfere with the inbvestigation.

The minister said security rules were violated and announced the start of an interior administrative inquiry, adding drastic measures will be taken after the investigation.

Romanian military prosecutors started criminal investigations "in rem" regarding stolen weapons from the military warehouse in Ciorogarla.
