Pîslaru: Salary Law must be adopted by August 31 to unlock money from PNRR

Minister Dragoș Pîslaru says that this could be the last week in which a political agreement can be obtained for the new salary law, so that the normative act can be adopted and promulgated by August 31, which could unlock 770 million euros.

„Last chance for the unitary salary law. Today we are entering the last turning point in order to be able to meet a critical milestone on PNRR, related to the salary law, the fulfillment of which would unlock 770 million euros for investments. It is most likely the last week in which a political agreement can be obtained on this reform, so that it can be adopted and promulgated before August 31, the deadline on PNRR”, Dragoș Pîslaru wrote on Facebook on Monday.

He claims that this is a law that has been postponed for four years, brought back into discussion after the period in which the Government was interim and which has been subjected to a massive disinformation campaign in recent weeks.

The minister says that the project allocates about 12 billion lei to correct inequities, establish a predictable framework for salary expenses and re-establish payroll in a public sector that had become increasingly fragmented.

„A law also mentioned in Moody’s assessment on Friday, the one in which we escaped a rating downgrade again because the Bologna Government made the necessary reforms and attracted European money, in which it is said in black and white that the adoption of the payroll law can lead to an improvement in the rating in the future,” adds the minister.

More than two-thirds of state employees to receive salary increases

He also says that through this project, „for over two-thirds of employees there would be salary increases” and that „a firm legal instrument” is provided through which no salary income would decrease, with compensatory amounts being allocated.

„The adoption of the project would imply wage predictability, which would also take off the table the usual promises of wage increases in the 2028 election year, equivalent to a drama for populist parties. The arbitrariness and the scenario of ‘if you support party X, then you get more’ disappear. Everything replaced with realism and increases as much as we can all afford today, after governments that have deceived a lot and set the public budget on fire”, claims Pîslaru.

He sends a message to political leaders: „Please, be responsible and contribute to the passage of the law. The credit can naturally be shared by the parties that will support this law, which is good not only for the approximately 4 billion lei that we can draw on the PNRR, but because it directly helps over 800,000 employees in the public sector, without negatively affecting the rest”.
