Under the law, Dinescu may challenge the National Integrity Agency's decision within 15 days from the incompatibility notification, the agency said in a press release Wednesday.

ANI, which screens the wealth and statements of interests of people holding public office to crack down corruption, said Mircea Dinescu has not been compatible with the position of member in the CNSAS since March 27, 2006, as he was also the manager of a commercial company.

On March 27, 2006, Dinescu was appointed member in the National Council Investigating Security's Archives, and under Law 144/2007 all members in the Council must submit their wealth statement and a statement of interests.

According to Law no. 161/2003 regulating transparency in exercising public positions, preventing and sanctioning corruption, membership in the National Council Investigating Security's Archives is incompatible with the position of manager of commercial companies.

Dinescu said he is waiting to be sacked from the National Council Investigating Security's Archives, after ANI notified him on his incompatibility with this position, adding he will neither challenge ANI's decision nor resign from CNSAS.

Dinescu said he received a notification from ANI on December 28, 2009, stating his membership in CNSAS is incompatible with the position of editor in chief at Cotidianul daily, adding he had left Cotidianul two months before receiving the notification.
