However, Tariceanu said he is displeased with the contract for construction works on the highway, stressing he does not feel comfortable knowing that of out nearly EUR400 million assigned this year for construction works, EUR136 million have already been paid.

Tariceanu also referred to a highway project that would link the country’s central region of Transylvania with the eastern region Moldavia and said the government’s infrastructure program is "ambitious and clears the path for future investments."

Construction works on Transylvania highway, linking central Brasov to western Bors, started in 2004 based on a contract worth EUR2.2 billion, which was assigned to U.S. construction company Bechtel.

However, works were halted mid- 2005 when the authorities looked into the contracts concluded during previous governments.

Under these circumstances, the initial deadline for the completion of works, set for 2012, was extended by one year.
