Official sources today told MEDIAFAX that Basescu held talks with Boc Wednesday, regarding the gas crisis, in a meeting unfolding at the Cotroceni Palace, immediately after the meeting between Boc and the Czech Ambassador to Bucharest.
 
The Czech Republic holds the half-yearly presidency of the EU since January 1, 2009.
 
All Russian gas supplies to Romania were halted Wednesday morning, after deliveries were cut at Mediesu Aurit gas import station at around GMT0700. Gas supplies via the other gas import station, Isaccea, were cut Tuesday morning.
 
Romanian Economy Minister Adriean Videanu called Wednesday state of emergency in the energy system, following the cut of Russian gas supplies to Romania.
 
Romania’s current gas consumption reaches 59 million cubic meters per day, with 33 million cubic meters coming from local production and 26 million from deposits.
