Works to insulate old apartment buildings will be 50% paid from the state budget, the Romanian senate decided Wednesday, approving a government decree that targets energy efficiency by insulating old buildings.

The normative act, approved by the Senate and pending approval from the Chamber of Deputies, regulates the thermal rehabilitation of buildings constructed based on construction designs drawn up between 1950 and 1990.
Under the decree, 50% of rehabilitation works will be paid from the state budget, via the Ministry of Regional Development and Housing, 30% by local authorities and 20% by people living in the respective buildings.
The decree was adopted 73 to five votes and two abstentions.
