Romanian Social Democrat Nastase Would Run Against President Basescu In 09

Romania’s former social democrat prime minister Adrian Nastase said Saturday he would accept to run against acting President Traian Basescu in the 2009 presidential elections unless the party comes up with a better candidate.

"Unless there is a better placed candidate for the presidential elections, I will accept to run against Traian Basescu. He mustn’t get a second mandate. He has done enough harm as it is," Nastase said.

‘If we manage to win the local elections or secure a very god result, if we manage to come up with an intelligent strategy for parliament elections, not necessarily by ourselves, then we should be able to reach a governing formula that would be of the utmost importance to residential elections,” he added.
