Ionuț Moșteanu announced on Friday that he has resigned from his position as Minister of Defense. "I am taking this step with commitment and respect for the Romanian Army," he said.

The Defence Ministry will have to focus its efforts, in 2020, on strengthening Romania's strategic profile within NATO and the EU and speeding up the process of developing the army's operational capacity, president Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday.

Romanian president Traian Basescu told Prime Minister Calin Tariceanu he would not accept the dismissal of defense minister Teodor Melescanu, proposed for justice minister, official sources told MEDIAFAX Tuesday.
