16 electric locomotives and 20 interregional electric multiple units will be purchased by Romania after the Ministry of Transport obtained 317 million euros from the Modernization Fund. The first approved tranche is 150 million euros.

UniCredit Leasing Fleet Management provided operating lease services for two TransMontana electric locomotives manufactured by Softronic-Softrans Craiova, which will be operated for freight transport, in Romania, by Deutsche Bahn Cargo.

Several people, including an Austrian businessman and a former employee of the Romanian Hunedoara County Culture Department, are under investigation by police concerning an alleged illegal export of steam locomotives, which could be part of the national patrimony.
