Romanian Public Sector Wages to Grow By 5% This Year – Sources

Romanian public sector salaries could be increased this year by some 5%, in stages, which is a variant discussed in the meeting held Wednesday between the members of the government coalition, but a decision will be reached Thursday in the government meeting, political sources told MEDIAFAX.

Different salary hikes could, however, be applied in education, mainly for teachers with low income, the sources said.

The government has already sent to unions a document proposing that public sector wages be increased, starting April, by a percentage calculated solely depending on the forecast growth of inflation, with the possibility of additional increase in te final three months of the year, in ratio with labor productivity.
