Mark Gray, spokesperson of the European Commission told MEDIAFAX on Monday that the statements made by Cristian Diaconescu, spokesperson of Romania’s leftist Social-Democratic Party, or PSD, in opposition, according to which the European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso supposedly requested the dismissal of Romania’s foreign affairs minister Adrian Cioroianu, are not at all true.

Gray stressed that Barroso "neither made such statements nor requested the dismissal of any Romanian politician."
Diaconescu claimed, in his turn, that Barroso, Terry Davis, secretary general of the European Council, and Christian Strohal, director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, they all requested Cioroianu’s dismissal.
