Cigarette Packs In Romania To Include Text And Image Warnings Starting July

Cigarette packs sold in Romania starting July 1 will have printed text warnings and a color photograph or illustration of the unhealthy effects of smoking, the Health Ministry said.

In compliance with Law no. 349/2002 for the prevention and fight against the effects of the consumption of tobacco products, cigarette packs sold in Romania and their outer wrappers will contain combined text and image warnings starting July 1, 2008.

The warnings aim to reduce the consumption of tobacco products by raising awareness on the unhealthy effects of smoking.

The mixed warnings will be printed using Helvetica bold fonts, similar to the warnings currently used, the ministry said.

Starting January 1, 2009, these warnings will be printed on the packs and outer wrapping of all other tobacco products meant for smoking, except cigars wrapped individually.
