Finance Minister: 2019 Budget Will Be Forwarded To Parliament Until Mid-December
Romanian Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici announced on Tuesday, in a press statement, that the draft project for the state’s 2019 budget will be sent for approval to the Parliament until the middle of the December and will be “more strictly constructed”.

“It will be stricter in the sense of how we approach the budget philosophy. Meaning that any sum which is requested will need to be extensively justified by every main authorizing officer, to prove clearly that the sum will also be spent. Otherwise, for example, you anticipate certain investment and make a macroeconomic calculation, but then during the year you see in the first, the second budget amendment that the sums were not spent,” the minister said on Tuesday.
Teodorovici added that there are still talks on whether the budget will include a VAT reduction to 18% and a repeal of the equity tax starting with next year.
He also confirmed that it will include a 15% rise of the pensions point value starting with September 2019, with an expected budget impact for the year of RON8.4 billion.
The finance minister ended his press statement by reconfirming that an analysis on the number of state employees will be concluded until the end of this year.
“This kind of an approach, for better efficiency of public institutions must be done one way or another, regardless of who or what says. It’s a matter of logic and common sense,” said Teodorovici.
