Maximum Flood Alert On Prut River In E Romania Extended Until Friday

Romanian hydrologists maintain the maximum flood alert level on river Prut, in the east of the country along the border with the Republic of Moldova, until Friday around noon.

Authorities extended the code red flood advisory Monday until Tuesday afternoon.

River sections under alert cross the Romanian counties of Botosani, Iasi, Vaslui and Galati.

Romania has been severely hit by floods over the past three weeks, resulting in 23 deaths and thousands of people evacuated. Damages caused by floods by last week were assessed at EUR59 million.

Authorities in the neighboring Republic of Moldova have also maintained flood alerts for the country's central and southern regions.
