"This adjustment can only take place within the boundaries of changes in the exchange rates. The Ministry of Health's policy does not involve price hikes, but the 2010 state budget law uses an exchange rate of RON4.25 for EUR1, as opposed to RON4 for EUR1 rates used in last year's budget," Cseke Attila told MEDIAFAX.

The greatest price hikes will be seen for medicine brought from Switzerland, because of increases in the Swiss Franc, while the greatest decreases in price will be seen for Polish medicine, with an average decrease of 11%, due to the strengthening of the Romanian Leu compared to the Polish Zlot. Most drugs are imported and paid in Euros, and the prices will be calculated at an exchange rate of EUR1=RON4.25.
