Nokia’s Romanian Plant To Cut Costs, Keep Up Production As Planned - Manager

The Romanian plant of Finnish mobile giant Nokia will resort to cost cuts like any other company trying to overcome the economic crisis, but the production will go on as planned in the next quarter, the company’s manager John Guerry said at the end of his meeting with president Traian Basescu.

"As any other company, we will reduce some costs in order to overcome the effects of the economic crisis, but I can’t tell right you now what these cutbacks are,” Guerry said.

Guerry assured the Romanian head of state that production at the plant will continue as planned. “I assured him of the company’s progress, and that the production will go as planned in the next quarter too,” Guerry said.

President Traian Basescu said Friday, after talks with management of the Romanian plant of Finnish mobile giant Nokia, that the unit is not affected by the international financial crisis and people’s jobs are safe.

Basescu said he visited the Nokia plant in Jucu, Cluj county, northwestern Romania, to discuss the company’s outlook with the management.

He added jobs there are safe and the unit will continue development in 2009. Basescu visited also the steel mill Russian Mechel owns in Campia Turzii, in northwestern Romania.
