Zottaadded Rednic made this decision for the team’s best.

Rednic said Monday on the football club’s official website that if he hadn’t resigned, the team, himself, players and fans would have had to lose. He added he was intent on leaving after the match against Universitatea Craiova.

"I had made the decision after the match against Craiova, but the match against Steaua was up and I wanted to win this match very badly. And we did win, despite this whole scandal which only proves it is impossible to swim against the current. The fair thing to do was for me to leave after the match against Steaua, but the match against Buzau was up and I gave in to George Copos’ requests,” Rednic said.

Rednic said he would resign Thursday after the derby against Steaua Bucharest was abandoned in the 74th minute, when central referee Alexandru Deaconu was hit by an object thrown from the home side fans’ area.

Deaconu ended the match after he was struck on the head, with Rapid leading 1-0 after a goal scored by defender Cristian Sapunaru.
