Romania, Bulgaria Plan To Join Schengen Area March 2011

Romania and Bulgaria plan to join the Schengen area in March 2011, the interior ministers of the two countries, Cristian David and Rumen Petkov, respectively, said in a joint statement Sunday.

The two ministers conferred in Romania’s seaside resort of Mamaia, the Romanian Ministry of Administration and Administrative Reform, or MIRA, said in a statement.
 
It said the two ministers agreed to draw up a joint action plan in the light of the accession to Schengen area by the end of June.
 
The two officials also talked about cooperation in the Black Sea area and setting up joint control actions at the borders on Danube River, MIRA said.
