Romania Ex-PM, Crin Antonescu Fight For Liberal Leadership

Romanian liberal leader, former premier Calin Popescu Tariceanu and fellow party member Crin Antonescu will draw swords at the party’s Extraordinary Congress on March 20 and March 21, respectively, as liberals are to elect new leadership.

Polls show Antonescu has the edge over Tariceanu for president position.

The liberals are also to vote several modifications to the party’ statute, while the most significant one being the introduction of the prime deputy president position.

Ludovic Orban, Teodor Atanasiu, Marian Petrache and Romeo Stavarache compete for the position.

In addition, 34 other members view for 14 positions of deputy president.
