Nica also said the measures target to wipe out bureaucracy and improve the activity of the Ministry of Administration and Interior.

According to Nica, the reorganization process will bring about a cut in number of general departments within the ministry to only eight from current 22 and the departments left outside will either merge or become small divisions, Nica said.

Nica pointed out that 719 positions within the ministry were transferred to operating bodies, while leadership positions were cut by 35%, adding that the reorganization process entails no layoffs whatsoever.

The National Anti-Drug Agency and the National Agency Against Human Trafficking will be subordinated to the Romanian General Police Department (IGPR), while the International Police Cooperation Center will be transferred from the ministry to IGPR.

The Special Group for Protection and Intervention "Acvila" will be reorganized within the Romanian Inspectorate of the Gendarmerie, the Institute for Security Studies will be transferred form the ministry to the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" Police Academy, while the minister’s Control Body and the Audit Department will merge into the General Control and Internal Audit Department.
