Romanian Businessman Sorin Ovidiu Vintu Sentenced To Six Months In Prison For Blackmail

Vintu's associate, Ion Ilie Cezar, indicted in the same case, has been sentenced to five months in prison.

The decisions may be appealed with the Bucharest Court.

On May 23, 2011, prosecutors indicted Vintu, former owner of Realitatea Media, and Ilie Cezar on charges of blackmailing Ghita. They had been placed under preventive arrest on April 29.

Prosecutors said the defendants forced Ghita to pay them EUR150,000 or accept the denouncement of a contract.

In June, the Bucharest Court decided Vintu will be tried at large.
