Romanian Dacia Sees Biggest Car Registration Increase On French Mkt In June

Registrations of Romanian new Dacia cars in France rose 95.8% on the year in June, to 12,075 units, placing the Romanian carmaker first on the French market in terms of car registrations and third among foreign brands marketed in France.

Dacia's market share rose to 5% in June, from 2.5%, on the segment of vehicles, according to data from the committee of French carmakers CCFA. Dacia car registrations on the French market rose to 61,249 units in the first half of 2010, compared with 23,886 units in the same period in 2009, while its market share rose to 5.1%, from 2.1%.

Taking into account data regarding light commercial vehicles, Dacia's registrations rose 90.2%, to 12,685 units in June 2010, which triggered an increase in market share to 4.5%, from 2.4%.

French car brand PSA Citroen Peugeot kept its top position on the French market in June, with 76,531 new registrations, down 5.6% from June 2009. The Group's market share shrank to 31.8% in June, from 33.3% in June 2009.

French Renault Group, owner of Romanian Automobile Dacia, ranks second with 64,644 new car registrations, down 1% from June 2008. Registrations of Renault cars fell 11.1%, to 52,569 units and the Group's market share rose slightly to 26.9%, from 26.8%.

Germany's Volkswagen reported the biggest number of new car registrations on the French market in June, of 26,293 units, followed by General Motors Europe with 15,015 units. Volkswagen places first among foreign brands marketed in France, with 16,606 new car registrations, followed by Ford with 12,308 units.

Overall, foreign brands registered a 46.3% market share in June, with 111,484 new car registrations, up 7.8% from June 2008. French brands, however, registered a 7.8% decrease, to 129,103 units.

Overall, 240,587 cars were registered on the French market in June, down 1.2% from the same month in 2009. A total 283,554 cars, including light commercial vehicles, are registered on the French market, up 0.9% on the year.
