The film "Loverboy" by Romanian director Catalin Mitulescu has been selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival (May 11-22), organizers announced Thursday.

Romanian Film "Loverboy" To Compete In Un Certain Regard Section At Cannes

"Loverboy" stars Ada Condeescu and George Pistereanu and tells the story of Luca, a young man who seduces girls and hands them over to a prostitution ring in Constanta. Police officers call this recruitment technique "the falling-in-love method" and its practitioners - "loverboys." Luca's life changes when he falls in love with Veli and decides to drop his act to be with her.

The film also features Bogdan Dumitrache, Clara Voda, Coca Bloss, Ion Besoiu, Remus Margineanu and Alexandru Mititelu, along with nonprofessional actors.

Catalin Mitulescu's directoral debut came in 2006 with the film "The Way I Spent the End of the World" (Romanian: Cum mi-am petrecut sfarsitul lumii). It won the Un Certain Regard for Best Actress at the 2006 Cannes Festival.
