Romanian Liberals Hang On Nicolai For Jus Min Position

The Romanian liberals consider three or four nominations for justice minister position, including nominating Norica Nicolai again, liberal deputy president Puiu Hasotti said Saturday.

He declined to give any names, but mentioned the liberals will meet Monday to decide on the situation at the ministry of justice.

The Constitutional Court on Thursday decided President Traian Basescu was entitled to refuse the nomination of Norica Nicolai as minister of justice and ordered the government to nominate another person for the position.

The Court decided Basescu “can refuse, only once and for grounded reasons” a nomination for the position of minister.

“Considering the current situation, we have four choices: to nominate a new minister of justice, have a government reshuffling, with the parliament’s approval, nominate Norica Nicolai again or make a switch inside the government and change the name of certain ministries,” Hasotti said.

He mentioned, however, that the last two of the four possibilities are the most unlikely.
