Romanian Lifeguards In Eforie Threaten To Go On Strike

The lifeguards are frustrated because there is no Local Council in Eforie to approve the wages payment already granted by the Government, as several members of the Local Council have not been validated yet.

Unless the lifeguards get paid by August 15, they will no longer do their duty on the beach, according to their representative, Daniel Motoi.

"We are not interested in hidden political agendas. We have not received the payment for the last two months, and our wish is simply to be paid for our services,” Motoi said.

The lifeguards set a one week deadline for the authorities to solve the situation. If not, then the lifeguards will go on strike and leave the beaches.

The lifeguards were one step away from going on a general strike in mid July, because the Government had not approved the sum necessary to finance their services from the state budget. The Government decided on July 16 to allocate the money after the lifeguards went on a slow strike.
