Romanian Pres To Attend Mediterranean Union Summit In Paris

Romanian President Traian Basescu will leave for Paris, France on Sunday to attend the Mediterranean Union summit, as well as the festivities on France’s Day on July 14, the presidency said in a statement Saturday.

The summit’s main objective is to officially launch an EU initiative called “Barcelona Process: a Mediterranean Union”, meant to revive efforts to turn the Mediterranean into an “area of peace, democracy and prosperity,” the statement noted.

France will host the meeting of 44 heads of state from the EU-27 bloc, north Africa and the Middle East, whose agenda includes curbing migration, fighting terrorism, the world food crisis, pollution etc.
