Romanian President Can Be Impeached Only By Majority Of Registered Voters – Draft

The Romanian Chamber of Deputies committee for legal matters on Wednesday adopted a bill by the Democratic Liberal Party, amending the referendum law, so that the President of Romania could be impeached only with the votes of the majority of registered voters.

The bill was put forward by democrat liberal deputies Daniel Buda, Gabriel Andronache and Mircea Toader.

Liberal deputy Alina Gorghiu said this requirement should be removed, since the President is elected with the votes of the majority of citizens who have turned out to vote, therefore the same rule should apply to impeachment.

The committee rejected this suggestion and adopted the bill with eight votes for and six votes against.

The bill will now be debated by the Chamber plenum.
