The amendment targeting the retirement age was proposed by several opposition social democrats after the pension bill was sent back to Parliament for reexamination.

Labor Minister Ioan Botis, who also attended debates in the labor committee, said he does not agree with the amendment adopted by senators.

The pension bill was sent back to Parliament for reexamination by President Traian Basescu, who requested lawmakers lower the set retirement age for women to 63 instead of 65.

The Senate's committee for legal matters decided last week that more articles of the pension bill will be reexamined, besides the article indicated by the head of state in his reexamination request.
