Bica’s appeal will be redone following a Constitutional Court decision in 2018, which ruled that the court’s five-judge appeal panels were had been selected by erroneous procedure starting with 2015.

The new appeal proceedings in the case have been scheduled to begin on May 20, with the former DIICOT chief subpoenaed for that date.

The court previously decided in June 2018 to maintain Alina Bica’s sentence to four years in prison for favoring a culprit, which was set to be a final decision in the case.

The former DIICOT chief was last reported to be in Costa Rica and stated that she does not want to return to Romania.
