Tables Will Turn At Final Results - Social Democrat President

Romanian social democrat leader Mircea Geoana said Monday the final election results will show the Social Democratic Party in the lead, adding the partial results placing democrat liberals on the top spot takes into account large urban areas where the party doesn’t have a majority.

He said votes counted so far are in those in Bucharest, but ballots cast in rural areas, where the party has a widespread majority, have yet to be counted.

"PSD will win, there’s no doubt,” Geoana said, adding the party’s own parallel counting of ballots points top a victory.

Romania’s Democratic Liberal Party obtained 34.67% of voters’ preferences for Senate, followed by the alliance of social democrats and conservatives with 33.36% and liberals with 18.18%, following the counting of votes in 71.06% of polling stations countrywide by Monday at GMT 0600, the Central Election Office said.

For the Chamber of Deputies, the same report shows the Democratic Liberal Party obtained 33.29% of voters’ preferences for the Chamber of Deputies, followed by the alliance of social democrats and conservatives with 32.51% and liberals with 18.10%.

Two exit polls Sunday evening showed the social democrats in the lead with roughly 36% of voters’ preferences, followed by democrat liberals with roughly 30% and liberals with roughly 20%.
