The leadership of Petrila mine in Hunedoara county, western Romania, was suspended Sunday following the tragic incidents on Saturday when twelve miners died and other thirteen were severely injured, economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian announced Sunday.

The minister also said that Constantin Jujan, deputy manager of the national pitcoal company, took the helm of the Petrila mine.

Vosganian cared to point out that the Petrila mine leadership was suspended to allow objective and transparent investigations, adding efficient measures must be taken immediately.
 
Vosganian said the experts of the pitcoal company measured gas concentrations in the mine and noted they were at "standard levels," stressing no aftershocks were registered.
 
Twelve miners died and other thirteen were committed to hospital Saturday following two powerful blasts at the Petrila mine.
