Romanian Auto Market 14th Largest In EU In Nov – ACEA

The Romanian auto market had the fifth biggest growth in the EU in November and climbed a position in the ranking of the biggest car markets in Europe, to 14 from 15 last year, according to data released Wednesday by the European Carmakers Association (ACEA).

New car registrations in Romania increased 34.7% in November, from 8,490 units in November last year to 11,440 units in November this year, while the EU market saw a decline of 7.1%, from 1.15 million to 1.07 million cars.

The ACEA report excludes data for Cyprus and Malta.

In November, Romanian carmaker Dacia stayed on the 15th spot by number of new car registrations, from 33 car makes present on the EU market. Dacia sales climbed 5.5%, from 22,782 units to 24,041 units and its market share increased from 2% last year to 2.2%.

In the January-November interval, the Romanian auto market declined 21.6%, the fifth biggest decline among the 25 EU countries analyzed. New car registrations in Romania decreased from 104,703 units in January-November 2009 to 82,069 units in the same period this year.

For the first 11 months, the Romanian auto market lost three spots from last year's 14 and now ranks 17th.

New car registrations in the EU in January-November declined 5.7% on the year, from 13 million units to 12.35 million.
