A doctor from the hospital’s ambulance service intervened to stop the shooter. Hospital staff said a conflict broke out in the hospital between two groups of Roma people.
Ambulance doctor Sorin Voicu said he heard several gun fires after he dropped a patient in the emergency room.
"I was just outside the hospital and was heading for the ambulance service to leave the car. I heard shots, I blocked the street with the ambulance and ran out to see what was going on. I saw several people and a man who had a gun. We ran after him and managed to catch him, and called the police,” Voicu said.
Before being caught, the man fired the gun several times outside the hospital as well, near a market.
Police isolated the area and started an investigation.
