Unionists are also disgruntled that staff working in the closed hospitals is to be distributed to other units and demand that these employees be guaranteed their jobs.

Protesters also call on the Health Ministry to discard the 70% budget cap hospitals are allowed to spend on staff.

Romania shut down 67 local hospitals as of April 1 and the Health Ministry plans to reorganize the units into nursing homes. Employees of the closed hospitals may continue to work in the nursing homes or may ask to be redistributed to other hospitals.
