In the last 24 hours, Romanian health authorities have confirmed 97 new cases of infection with AH1N1 flu, bringing the total number to 672, with no fatalities, according to official statistics.

Specialists said the high number of cases confirmed in this period owes to the virus' infiltrating and spreading among groups of young people in the counties of Iasi, Dolj and Prahova, and the city of Bucharest.

Romania's High Council for National Defense (CSAT) decided in its meeting on the evolution of the AH1N1 flu virus to supplement funds for the purchase of medical equipment, medicines and vaccines and said the situation in Romania is under control.

CSAT analyzed in its meeting Tuesday the AH1N1 virus situation, different scenarios of pandemic evolution and measures to be taken by the government, the president's office said in a press release Tuesday.
