According to Tataru, Moldovan customs officers use various reasons to deny Romanians’ access to the neighboring country and the lack of an invitation from somebody in Moldova is their most commmon excuse.

Tataru said 125 Romanian citizens were denied access to Moldova in the last 24 hours and added that 250 cases were registered since Thursday night.

Romanian Foreign Minister Cristian Diaconescu said Friday he is “concerned and worried” with respect to the situation of Romanian nationals, who are “systematically” denied access to the Republic of Moldova.

Sixteen Romanian tourists riding the international train on the route Bucharest - Chisinau said they were halted in Ungheni customs Thursday night and Moldovan customs officers denied them access to the Republic of Moldova.

"We were asked to get off the train, we got no explanations. We were kept in an unheated room and then taken back to Iasi,” one of the tourists said.

On Thursday, members of county councils in Iasi and Vaslui, who were supposed to attend a meeting in the Republic of Moldova, were also denied access to the neighboring country without receiving any explanations.
