Around 48,500 Romanians Choose Internal Destinations For Easter Holiday

The number of tourists estimated by the Federation is lower than the one expected by the National Tourism Agency Association (ANAT) and below the one recorded during the Easter holiday of 2008, when the number of free days was higher, as Easter was closer in the calendar to May 1.

For the first time, rural pension houses were among the tourists’ favorites, with over 18,000 reservations. Some 9,000 other people chose to buy accommodations in private homes, for similar prices.

According to FPTR, tourists who have chosen rural pension houses will spend RON12.6 million on tourist services. The most popular regions are Bran-Moeciu, Vrancea, Sibiu, Maramures and Buzau, where reservations have exceeded 90% of the lodging capacity.

Mountain resorts, especially those in Valea Prahovei, are on second place, with the occupancy rate at 60%. Other mountain resorts have been occupied up to half capacity. The 15,000 Romanians who have made reservations so far will spend RON7.5 million.

“Another segment on offer was large cities, with hotel restaurants serving the traditional Easter meal to around 5,000 tourists, who will spend about RON750,000,” a FTPR statement said.

A mere 800 accommodation spots have been taken up on the seaside, of the 5,000 prepared by hotel managers. The FTPR blames this on the bad weather, although the many discos and clubs will attract young people.

The Danube Delta will welcome over 1,500 Romanian tourists, while about 8,000 people will spend the holiday in balneary resorts. Overall, tourists will spend about RON4 million in these regions.

According to FPTR statistics, the level of sales of internal tourism is similar to the one in 2006. The Federation said that the when Easter is not close to the free days on May 1, the results are unimpressive.

The number of tourists in this period is almost 40% lower than the same period in 2008, without taking into account individual tourists which do not turn to organized tourism, or those that spend the holidays with relatives.
