Bucharest Henri Coanda Intl Airport Opens New Terminal

Boc said the new terminal represents a success of the Government's investment policies and a sign of economic development.

The construction of the airport's new terminal, which cost EUR60 million, was financed with internal loans and funds made available by the Bucharest Airports Company.

The terminal is included in the third stage of a program aimed to modernize the airport and represents one of the technical requirements Romania must meet in order to join the Schengen Area.

Last year, Boc checked the stage of works for the implementation of the Schengen standards at the Henri Coanda airport and demanded the new terminal be finalized by March 2011. He warned "heads will roll" if the deadline is not met and Romania's accession to the Schengen area will be affected.

End-December 2010, France and Germany decided to block Romania's and Bulgaria's accession to Schengen in March, citing corruption and deficiency in fighting organized crime.
