Thus, the judges decided to maintain the interdiction to leave Bucharest and Ilfov county for Gigi Becali, allowing the appeal formulated by the Prosecution office within the Bucharest District 1 Court, where prosecutors requested the rejection of Becali’s request.

The decision is final.

The panel of judges included George Matei Dorel, who decided to maintain Becali’s arrest the first time around. For this reason, Becali wanted to leave the courtroom in protest.

Becali told the court Thursday that prosecutor Amariei, the one who handled his case and requested his arrest, did this to mock him, adding that he has not once been called in to make statements.

Thus, Becali said he is outraged by the manner in which the investigation is going in his case, regarding the kidnapping of three individuals, as prosecutors proceeded to arrest him first, before carrying out the investigation and taking statements from him.

In the context of his recent election as MEP, Becali asked the court to cancel all restrictions, as this is the only way to end the circus caused by the criminal trial involving him.

Becali’s lawyer told magistrates Becali was officially validated as Member of the European Parliament, since president Traian Basescu signed the decree with the appointment.

Becali was arrested on April 3, on three counts of kidnapping, as he apprehended three men who had stolen his luxury car and took them to a location “for talks”.
