Finnish mobile telephone giant Nokia started production Monday in its plant in Jucu, in the northwestern Romanian county of Cluj, where it is to assemble its 1200 model for markets in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Finnish Mobile Giant Nokia Started Production In NW Romania

During the opening ceremony, Nokia senior vice-president Nokia Juha Putkiranta called Finland’s ambassador to Romania, Tapio Saarela, using one of the phoned made in Jucu.
 
Putkiranta said Cluj county was selected for the Nokia plant due to the availability of skilled workers and the area’s proximity to the company’s targeted markets.
 
He added the county has an industrial tradition and the area is expected to change radically into a technological area over the following years.
The manager of Nokia Romania, John Guerry, said the plant in Romania currently employs 350 people.
